Is it okay to put dining table in front of the fireplace instead of a couch or seating area? ~ Mary P.

Short answer – Yes! Just because the floor plan or builder calls it the living room or family room doesn't mean you have to use it for that purpose. It's okay to switch around rooms. Adapt them to suit your needs or desires.  Fireplaces are a great feature and make any room more cozy. If you'd rather your dining room have the fireplace than your living room, then I say go for it. Imagine how wonderful it would be to enjoy dinner with family and friends in front of the glow and warmth of a fireplace.

Having a fireplace in the dining room is a very appealing feature and it offers an instant focal point. But be sure to take the proper safety precautions when arranging your furniture. Keep furniture a minimum of 3 feet from the center of the fireplace and make sure their is a firescreen to keep sparks from flying.
